Kenyon College is conducting a search for a qualified candidate to fill the position of Assistant/Associate Director of Housing and Operations. The Assistant/Associate Director of Housing and Operations supports the mission of the College by managing the College’s housing operations program in collaboration with other professional staff. The Office oversees housing operations and program implementation for Kenyon’s fully residential campus. Professional staff members and student leaders work together to cultivate safe and inclusive living communities. This is a twelve month, live-on position that includes evening and weekend responsibilities.

HOUSING & OPERATIONS RESPONSIBILITIES:

  • Manage an 1,800-bed campus housing operations program for 12 residence halls, 9 specialty houses, and 8 apartment areas.
  • Oversee the development and implementation of campus housing assignment processes and occupancy management functions, including, but not limited to, housing selection, first-year housing assignments, room changes, and damage billing.
  • Collaborate with the Coordinator of Housing and Office Operations to manage office housing processes, including, but not limited to, move-in/move-out, early arrivals, and break, transition, and summer housing.
  • Collaborate with Maintenance to manage residential building repairs and custodial needs.
  • Collaborate with the Director of Residential Life and Maintenance to identify residential building and equipment needs for annual repair and replacement process; partner with Business Services, Maintenance, and Summer Conferences to order furniture and coordinate completion of approved projects.
  • Partner with Business Services to secure and provide vendor services to students and families.
  • Complete monthly walk-throughs of residential spaces with Residential Life Coordinators (RLCs).
  • Assist with the coordination and support of College housing operations during campus emergencies.
  • Serve as a member of the Residential Life team; develop and maintain mutually supportive and collaborative working relationships with Coordinator of Housing and Operations, Assistant Director of Residential Life, and RLCs.
  • Collaborate with Campus Safety to develop and implement health, safety, and emergency response materials and training opportunities for students, Community Advisors, and professional staff members.
  • Partner with the Office of Student Accessibility Services to identify housing assignments for students with approved ADA housing accommodations and/or Emotional Support Animals (ESAs); ensure students with approved ESAs are aware of and follow ESA policies.
  • Collaborate with campus partners to coordinate housing needs for New Student Move-In, Commencement, Reunion Weekend, and Summer Conferences.
  • Allocate and administer community funds; manage student staff payroll.
  • Hire, train, supervise, and evaluate a four to six-student summer crew.

OTHER RESPONSIBILITIES:

  • Assist with designated office, divisional, and/or College committees, initiatives and processes, including, but not limited to, Housing and Dining, Records and Technology, Sustainability, and Commencement.
  • Participate in the professional, on-call Student Affairs duty rotation for the College’s 1750 students, providing 24-hour crisis intervention, on-site emergency response, and support to CAs and other campus partners.
  • Assist in the implementation and enforcement of college policies and expectations.
  • Develop and maintain courteous and effective working relationships with student affairs colleagues, faculty, and campus partners.
  • Continuously identify and address the developmental needs of students through educational interactions, crisis response protocols, and mediations; advise and provide general support to students.
  • Ensure excellent customer service for students, families, alumni, and campus guests.
  • Develop meaningful connections with students, staff and faculty by being available and visible on campus.
  • Assist with special projects and other duties as needed.

WORKING CONDITIONS

The Assistant/Associate Director must be within 30 minutes of campus while fulfilling on-call responsibilities. Work is generally performed in an office environment, but overseeing the College’s housing operations program and fulfilling duty responsibilities requires being able to navigate between residential facilities, including up and down stairs, moving through long hallways, being in buildings without air conditioning, and being outside in various weather conditions. Must also be able to lift boxes of items up to 30 pounds, move tables, chairs, and other furniture. Requires a valid driver’s license and ability to meet campus requirements to drive campus vehicles, in order to transport students and other items. Must be able to work evenings and weekends, including times when the College is closed; this includes the ability to travel and work during inclement weather or other exceptional conditions.

QUALIFICATIONS

Master’s degree in higher education, student affairs, counseling, or a related field is required. Two to four years of graduate or professional experience in higher education is required. Professional experience working in housing operations and/or residential life experience, including experience supervising student leaders, or professional staff members, is preferred. Committed to and familiar with the values and needs of a small, private, residential liberal arts college. Demonstrated cultural competency and commitment to issues of diversity, equity, and inclusion, and an understanding of the unique intersections of identity and the student experience. Strong sense of organizational and administrative skills. Effective verbal and written communication skills. Demonstrated interest in working with and mentoring college students. Working knowledge of Microsoft Office and Google products, Symplicity Residence, BANNER, Campus Reports, and Big Tree is preferred. Ability to maintain the privacy of student interactions/conduct, conversations with professional staff and administrative documentation. Effective verbal and written communication skills. Ability to accurately perform a variety of tasks, often on short notice.
