2021 International Charity Fraud Awareness Week

The Better Business Bureau and BBB Wise Giving Alliance are participating in International Charity Fraud Awareness Week taking place October 18 –  22.

This event is an international coalition of government regulators, charities and other nonprofit associations seeking to raise awareness about charity fraud.

A donor advisory has been developed that addresses three themes:

(1) Be aware of questionable charity appeals whether they take place online, in the mail or by phone. For example, many names sound alike, the charity soliciting you may not be the one you have in mind.

(2) Take time to check out charities before making a donation. Visit Give.org to find out if the charity meets the BBB Standards for Charity Accountability.

(3) Know how to report charity fraud if you believe you have been a victim. Contact the appropriate U.S. state government agency, the Federal Trade Commission (in Canada, the Canada Revenue Agency) and consider posting to BBB Scam Tracker.
