Ohio School Safety Center Holds 2021 School Safety Summit

Three-day Virtual Summit Runs From Oct. 6-8

COLUMBUS — The Ohio School Safety Center (OSSC) is hosting its 2021 Virtual School Safety Summit this week, bringing in experts on physical safety, school culture and climate, anti-bullying efforts and more. The three-day conference, which runs Oct. 6-8, includes over 60 breakout presentations and keynote speakers.

“A safe and secure school environment is critical to allowing our students the best opportunity to thrive and learn,” said Ohio Governor Mike DeWine. “Encouraging and fostering information sharing between the different school safety disciplines is what truly makes this possible. That’s why we established the Ohio School Safety Center and why we’re hosting this vitally important three-day virtual summit.”

The free summit provides an opportunity for school safety, public safety, mental health professionals, and others to share best practices, training, and resources with school and community leaders across the state.

Presentations and training opportunities will include experts in physical security, mental health, school climate, critical incident response, cyber, threat assessment, and more. The content is particularly relevant to educators, transportation advisors, school administrators, school resource officers, first responders, mental health professionals, local/state/federal partners, elected officials, and other school safety and security professionals.

Governor DeWine created the OSSC in 2019. The Center works to assist local schools and law enforcement agencies to prevent, prepare for, and respond to threats and acts of violence, including self-harm, through a holistic, solutions-based approach.

While the Ohio School Safety Summit occurs during the school day, those who are unable to attend the summit live will be able to view the recorded presentations in the archives for up to three months.
