Examination Date: Wednesday, Sept. 15th, 2021 at 6:30 p.m.
Location of exam: Knox County Career Center Cafeteria, 306 Martinsburg Rd., Mount Vernon. Please come to the east side door! Be there by 6:15 pm for check in. Picture ID required/Valid Drivers License is acceptable. Due to possible COVID-19 issues please wear a mask and understand that your temperature will be taken at the entrance to the exam. If you have a temperature of over 100.4 you will not be admitted to the exam.
Applications, once filled out, can be brought in or mailed to 40 Public Square, Room 203, Mount Vernon or placed in the mail slot of Room 203, Mount Vernon City Hall. Applications will not be accepted at the office of the Safety Service Director.

*FILING FEE: Prior to the application deadline a filing fee of $5.00 must be paid by cash, check or money order. Checks should be made out to the “City of Mount Vernon”. The application and filing fee must be received by the civil service office prior to the deadline in order to be admitted to the exam.
Candidates must be 18 years of age by date of “certification” to the Safety Service Director to receive an initial appointment as a Police Records/IT clerk. Any applicant with a felony conviction will be rejected. Statements on the application will be researched, and false statements will result in the rejection of the applicant.
The exam will encompass multiple areas essential to the performance of the job of a police records clerk. (IT knowledge will be determined by specific interview of the top 10 candidates.) The test includes questions on typical dispatcher situations, problem solving, filing, data entry/accuracy, math/cashiering, public contact and interpersonal relations. This constitutes the entire test. Total questions: 100; Time to take exam: two and a half (2 1/2) hours.
A passing score of 70% must be attained on the exam to receive any additional credit. Applicants who are residents of Ohio and who have been honorably discharged from active duty in the armed forces of the United States are eligible to receive an additional credit of 20%. Credit MUST be verified with a copy of the applicant’s DD214 indicating an “honorable” discharge. (Ohio National Guard service IS accepted for this with verification of ACTIVE duty participation.) As of Sept. 2012, any military reserve member (in good standing) will also receive credit of 15% of their test grade with proper verification. This should be turned in with the application materials. It will NOT be accepted on the test date at test site. Candidates must receive a passing score of 70% to receive this credit.
Pay Rate: 2021 wage scale, $21.18 per hr. (Union contract provisions apply.)
