Job Summary

Our company has an opportunity for a Laboratory Manager to work in our quality and POP testing lab in Mount Vernon, Ohio. The position supports UN/DOT performance-oriented packaging tests on drums (steel, fiber, poly) and IBCs (Intermediate Bulk Containers). The successful candidate will be responsible for support functions such as test set up, test results data entry and routine lab maintenance. Additional testing may include raw materials (resin, steel), technical support of R&D projects and quality investigations as directed by the senior management.


Essential Functions

  • Responsible for set up and performance of UN/DOT performance-oriented packaging tests including drop, hydrostatic, leak proofness, stack, vibration, and QC testing on drums and IBCs.
  • Preparation of samples for testing – fill test drums and IBCs to required weight with appropriate test media, set up test apparatus such as stack testing, leak proofness, hydrostatic pressure test
  • Daily input of test results into Excel. Preparation and distribution of test results and trend reports
  • Forwarding results from daily production testing performed in the lab at the end of each day
  • Recording and Entering UN Testing results into forms and forwarding to lab management.
  • Support engineering/operations in product improvement projects
  • Interact and collaborate with plant personnel on customer specific developmental projects and/or QC investigations
  • Responsible for general light-duty maintenance
  • Complete Project/testing reports
  • Periodically conduct and record calibration results of lab equipment with master gages and devices.
Job Requirements

Job Qualifications

  • Associate’s degree in engineering/material science with 2-3 years of experience, or an equivalent combination of education and experience sufficient to demonstrate ability to perform duties
  • Use and understanding of precision measuring instruments and gauges, specifications, charts and diagrams.
  • Proficient use of Microsoft Office (Word, Excel, PowerPoint)
  • Project oriented requiring minimal supervision, proactive and adaptable
  • Must be able to read, write and speak English
  • Able to accurately read test methods, measuring devices, product specifications and test procedures
  • Excellent organizational and collaboration skills
  • Must be able to stand, sit, climb or balance, stoop, kneel and/or crouch for extended periods of time.
  • Good hand/eye coordination and motor skills
  • Ability to distinguish color shades
  • Must be able to use drum and IBC handling equipment for both full and empty packaging
  • Must be able and willing to learn how to operate a forklift
  • Must be able to lift 50 lbs.
