Food Programs Encouraged to Apply for Food For The Hungry Summer Grant

MOUNT VERNON — This year has been different in many aspects including how organizations are able to continue with their organizations, services, and ministries. The Food For The Hungry board has announced a summer grant program directed to reach churches, agencies, and organizations that provide summer food programs to fill the gap for families with children home from school.

“We are thankful for these funds so generously donated by the community, as well as organizations like The United Way of Knox County, AEP, and others,” Drive Coordinator, Lisa Mazzari said.

Organizations may request up to $2,000 in funding for programs that will provide food assistance/distribution through Aug. 19. Groups that provide assistance outside the traditional Mid-Ohio Food Bank income guidelines are strongly encouraged to apply. Applications are available at www.foodforthehungrycares.org. The application process is open from Wednesday, May 26 through Monday, June 7 at 12 p.m. (noon). Awards will be announced no later than Thursday, June 17.

“We are thankful for those groups who provide nutritious food throughout the summer months while students are home,” said Samantha Scoles, FFTH president. “The summer grant program is critical to meeting the financial needs of our food pantries and their clients.”

The 2020 Food For The Hungry campaign raised a record $424,029.71 and 15.3 truckloads of food. The FFTH Board of Directors has worked diligently to determine the best use of the assets resulting in a fully tangible grant awarded to 12 applicants including The Salvation Army and Interchurch Social Services, as well as extra funds added onto already awarded grants.

Thanks to this generous community and continued support as we work together to care for our neighbors.
