Brown Announces More Than $319,000 to Improve Airports in Ashland & Knox Counties

 

WASHINGTON, D.C. – May 20, 2021 –  Today, U.S. Senator Sherrod Brown (D-OH) announced that the United States Department of Transportation’s (DOT) Federal Aviation Administration (FFA) has awarded two grants to county governments in Northeast Ohio totaling $319,982. The funds will be used to help make necessary repairs to airports and their infrastructure.

DOT funds include:

  •  $209,982 grant to the Ashland County Airport Authority and Ashland County Commissioners to conduct sealing and crack repair on 3,950 square yards of apron surface, and 1,050 feet of taxilane to extend the pavements useful life at Ashland County Airport.
  • $110,000 grant to the Knox County Commissioners and Knox County Airport Authority to reconstruct 1,200 square yards to apron pavement, and 1,300 feet of taxilane pavement that has reached the end of its useful life at Knox County Airport.

“Ohio airports are vital to supporting travel and commerce in the state,” said Brown. “These investments will help to ensure the safety of Northeast Ohio airports for passengers for years to come.”

The FAA supports public-use airports included in the National Plan of Integrated Airport Systems (NPIAS) through the Airport Improvement Program.
