City of Mount Vernon Renews its Electric Aggregation Program Energy Harbor will be Electric Provider for the Next Four Years

Mount Vernon, OH, May 5, 2021 — The City of Mount Vernon has successfully renewed its electric aggregation program. Following a competitive bid process, administered by the City’s Consultant, Buckeye Energy Brokers, the City selected Energy Harbor’s fixed generation price of 4.69 cents/kWh, which will be applied to customer bills beginning July 2021 and remain in place through December 2025.

In November 2011, the Mount Vernon community first voted in favor of government aggregation. Under government aggregation, local officials bring citizens together to gain group buying power for the purchase of competitively priced electricity from a retail electric generation supplier certified by the Public Utilities Commission of Ohio (PUCO). Every three to four years, the City collects competitive bids to decide on a supplier for the subsequent cycle.

Headquartered in Akron, Energy Harbor has more than 200 community aggregation programs and serves nearly one million residential, commercial and industrial customers in Ohio, Pennsylvania, New Jersey, Maryland, Illinois and Michigan.

Beginning around May 19, Mount Vernon residents and small businesses will receive a letter from the City and Energy Harbor with information about the aggregation program, including terms and conditions. As part of the agreement, there are no early termination fees so customers can leave the program at any time without penalty.

To join or remain in the aggregation program, no action is required. If you do not wish to participate, the Energy Harbor letter provides three easy ways to opt out – phone, mail or web.
For additional information about the electric aggregation program customers can call Energy Harbor at 1-866-636-3749, Monday-Friday, 8 am to 5 pm.
