Swint Sentenced in Arson, Machete Incident

March 26, 2021 – Robert Swint, 38, of Mount Vernon, was sentenced to a 5 to seven-and-a-half year sentence for attempted aggravated arson and felonious assault with a deadly weapon yesterday.
The case arose out of an incident where Swint attempted to set fire to a homeless man’s tent and struck the man with a machete.
Both charges are second degree felonies that carry a presumption of prison, and a sentencing range of 2-12 years of indefinite sentencing time.
Swint was found guilty of these charges at a jury trial last month. The court adopted the prosecutor’s recommendation, while defense counsel argued that Swint should be sentenced to probation.
