Title: Juvenile Probation Officer
Department: Juvenile/ Probate Court
Position Type(s): Full-time, 40 hours per week / Non-Exempt, Unclassified
Typical Work Schedule: 7:30 a.m. to 4:00 p.m./ On call as scheduled
Pay Range: Commensurate with Experience
Objective: Individual will supervise and counsel juveniles that are placed on probation along with performing all duties associated with case management.
Minimum Qualifications: Individual must possess an Associate’s degree in criminal justice, psychology, social work or related field, or other field of instruction/experience approved by the Judge. Individual must possess a valid driver’s license and acceptable driving record. Individual must meet and maintain all required licenses and certifications as a continued condition of employment.
Essential Job Functions:
- Maintain a minimum caseload of 15 to 25 juvenile delinquency offenders, including juvenile offender truancy probation cases;
- Conduct regular home, school, employment, and office visits;
- Document all contacts regarding the child and family;
- Perform drug screens on juvenile offenders;
- Make referrals to appropriate agencies and treatment providers;
- Taking juveniles into custody/arrest for violations of law, probation violations, or direct court orders;
- Provide on call emergency services as scheduled;
- Meet with juveniles and their families and legal representatives to inform them about the legal conditions of their probation;
- Review the legal history and school records of the offender and the facts of the current offense;
- Formulate recommendations concerning conditional release or institutionalization of offender, consult with involved parties, and present proposal to the court;
- Make regular visits to offender’s home and school or employer to determine success of failure of rehabilitation programs;
- Administer risk level assessments to juveniles;
- Attend any arraignments, pre trials, and intakes as directed by supervisor; and
- Serve as the main point of contact with juvenile offenders, family members, and treatment professionals for the Juvenile Probation Department.
