MVMS Robotics Team State Bound

MVMS Robotics Team 40530E took on all challengers and became Tournament Champions at the Highland Middle School Tournament.

According to coach Emily Miller, “We had an incredible weekend of back to back Tournaments at Mahoning Valley on Friday and Highland Middle School on Saturday. At the Highland Middle School Vex Robotics Competition Qualifier Team 43050E took home the Tournament Champions trophy and will be headed to the State Vex Robotics Competition Tournament in April.”

Each tournament they attend is a regional qualifier for State. Miller explained that the other 3 robot teams for MVMS appear to be close to qualifying for State as well. “Our teams Skills scores at Highland Ranked #43050E in 6th, #43050C in 9th, #43050A in 20th and #43050B in 21st in the State of Ohio for Middle School Skills.”
The Ohio Middle School Skills Rankings provide spots for the Vex Robotics State Competition once the regular tournaments end. This puts the other three Mount Vernon teams in a position that will likely lead to qualification.
Miller stated, “It has been impressive watching these students grow throughout the season. The learning that takes place preparing and competing at each tournament is exciting to watch. At the previous two tournaments the students learned design and building improvements that led to faster, more consistent robots on Friday at Mahoning Valley.  Then they learned game strategy at Mahoning Valley that led to success in the tournament bracket and the Finals at Highland on Saturday.”
The MVMS Robotics Team’s last regular tournament qualifier is at North Union on March 20th before heading to the State competition on April 16th.
