Vegetables, eggs and meat in demand
MOUNT VERNON – It seems like winter has just begun but, thankfully, spring will be here in a couple of months and the Mount Vernon Farmers Market will return to the Public Square. The market is scheduled to begin in early May and continue each Saturday morning through October.
The Farmers Market Board will be taking the July 2020 COVID-19 guidelines to the Knox County Health Department in March for review. Plans are to open the market with the same guidelines that were followed from July-October last year unless the governor changes the state’s status. Those guidelines include mandatory mask wearing by all market vendors during market hours of 9 a.m. to 12:00 p.m.
In 2021, the market will again utilize the app, Manage My Market to apply for the 2021 market season. Returning vendors will not have to create a new account but will have to apply for the 2021 Mount Vernon Market and make vendor payments. There will be an application fee. Vendor fees for the season will be based on the number of days a vendor is planning to sell at the market.
Anyone who is interested in becoming a vendor for 2021 is encouraged to apply. Especially needed are vendors selling eggs, meat and fruits & vegetables.
Current vendors need to login to their Manage My Market account and click apply now to the 2021 Mount Vernon Farmers Market, answer the questions, and upload any licenses/ certifications that need updated.
Vendors needing Good Agricultural Practice training the Ohio State Produce Safety Team will be offering three trainings this winter virtually. Visit producesafety.osu.edu/events to find the registration information. Trainings are free but registration is required.
Training dates are:
- Thursday, February 18, 2021, 6-9 pm
- Thursday, March 18, 2021, 6-9 pm
Applications will be accepted now through March 14, 2021. All payments, licenses/certifications and completed applications need to be done by March 14, 2021 to be eligible to sell during the 2021 market.
