COLUMBUS – Ohio State Highway Patrol troopers filed felony drug charges against an Ohio man after a traffic stop in Summit County. During the traffic stop, troopers seized a loaded 9mm Springfield Armory XD handgun, a digital scale and 60 grams of methamphetamine worth approximately $6,000.
On December 16, at 8:30 a.m., troopers stopped a 2001 Ford Explorer with Ohio registration for a failure to display registration violation on Arlington Road in Akron. The driver was found to be driving under a suspension and had an active felony warrant for his arrest. An administrative inventory of the vehicle was conducted and revealed the handgun and contraband.
The driver, Edward Stoll, 35, Akron, was charged with possession and trafficking in drugs, both second-degree felonies and improper handling of a firearm in a motor vehicle, a fourth-degree felony.
If convicted, he could face up to 17 and half years in prison and up to a $35,000 fine.
