More Than 91% of Ohio Parks and Recreations Levies Approved

Yesterday was very favorable for Ohio parks as shared by our Ohio Parks and Recreation Association Director. Ohio voters approved more than 91% of the parks and recreation levies which were placed before them Tuesday night, a result the Ohio Parks and Recreation Association called “remarkable.”
The group of winners was led by Metroparks Toledo, which passed a new 2 mil, 10-year levy with 62% of the vote. Metropolitan Park Districts in Ashland, Darke, and Ottawa counties were also successful, with the Ottawa County Park District passing a levy for the first time.
“It was a great night for parks and recreation in Ohio,” said OPRA Executive Director Woody Woodward. “In every part of the state, in large and small cities, villages townships and counties, Ohio voters affirmed the value that parks and recreation provide to their communities.
We are particularly pleased with the result in Toledo. Community leaders have entrusted Metroparks Toledo with redeveloping the downtown riverfront. Voters there agreed that the park district is best equipped to lead that project. It is a game-changer for Northwest Ohio,” Woodward said.
Of the successful levies, seven were for additional funding. The remaining levies were renewals or replacements.
Knox County is surrounded by beautiful city, county, and village parks! Thank you to all who support our efforts to provide a place to enjoy nature and recreation while engaging in exercise and good health.
