Moths are often named for their host plant, illuminated by the primrose moth (Schinia florida). These moths can be found nestled in the flower of its host plant during the day, common evening primrose (Oenothera biennis). Primrose moths are night fliers coinciding with the bloom time of the common evening primrose whose flower opens in the evening and closes up by mid-day. This moth has been observed at two Northwest Ohio state nature preserves this year, Louis Campbell and Irwin Prairie. Photo and text by preserve manager Maureen Bogdanski.
