Gray Tree Frogs

A master of disguise and acrobatics the grey tree frog would be well suited for clandestine missions. Male gray tree frogs (Hyla versicolor) have an unmistakable robust trill often heard during the evening when ambient temperatures are above 60 degrees F. Varying shades of gray, green and brown are offset with brightly colored yellow thighs. They are also able to change their skin color to blend into their surroundings but this can take hours to achieve. Gray tree frogs prefer a diet of click beetles, ants and other terrestrial insects. This beauty, likely a female, was hanging out around the Northeast Ohio State Nature Preserves’ office at Eagle Creek State Nature Preserve in Portage County.
