Blinded-Eyed Sphinx Moth

Photo taken at Irwin Prairie by Preserve Manager, Maureen Bogdanski.

Meet the Blinded-Eyed Sphinx moth found at Irwin Prairie hung from a blade of grass which appeared to be a dried leaf. This is a nocturnal moth. This sphinx moth overwinters as a caterpillar in a fairly weak silk cocoon and emerges as this beauty in the spring. Another reason to keep a messy area of your yard for a wildlife winter safe haven.
