Fireworks Safety Tips

The 4th of July is this Saturday. We want you to have a safe holiday so here are some fireworks safety tips.

Trick and novelty fireworks include sparklers, snaps, glow snakes and smoke bombs. These can be legally sold and used in most places in Ohio.

Handle and discharge trick & novelty devices with strict supervision. Appoint 1 adult to be in charge and they should know how each device should be used. Carefully read and follow the label directions on the device packaging.

Light 1 sparkler at a time and hold it away from the body and others. Sparkler wires can burn up to 1800 degrees and after use should immediately be placed in a bucket of water to avoid injuries as they remain hot for a few minutes after burnout.

If someone gets burned run cool water over the wound for 2-3 minutes and seek medical attention when necessary.

The U.S. Consumer Product Safety Commission reports firework-related annual injuries are estimated at 11,400 and children under the age of 15 account for 40% of them.

Stay safe and have a Happy July 4th holiday weekend!
