Do you recognize this United States President and Ohio Governor? Do you know that he made a “Whistle Stop” speech at one of the trail towns known as Mount Liberty in Knox County. He traveled by rail on the Columbus, Akron, and Cleveland railroad to campaign for Ohio Governor and gave his speech at the local tavern/hotel which is still standing today along Route 3 and 36. Does this history interest you? The “Whistle Stop” marker is located throughout the trail and was an indicator to the train engineer to sound the whistle to alert others a train was approaching.
