Jeffrey Scott Named Executive Director of Knox County Foundation

Jeffrey Scott, newly named executive director of the Knox County Foundation

Jeffrey Scott, Director of Marketing and Development at Knox Community Hospital, has been named executive director of the Knox County Foundation, effective July 13, 2020. Scott replaces Sam Barone, who has served as executive director of the Knox County Foundation since July 2002, and who announced his June 30 retirement in January.

Board Chair Richard K. Mavis said, “The Knox County Foundation thrived under Sam’s leadership the past 18 years, as evidenced by our endowment nearly quadrupling in size, from $21 million to $80 million. Sam’s expansion of the Foundation encouraged new partnerships with donors and non-profit organizations, which contributed to improving our quality of life in Knox County. We will miss Sam’s leadership at the Foundation, but we know he and his wife Paula will continue to be active participants in civic affairs.”

Mavis added, “The Knox County Foundation Board welcomes Jeff Scott to the role of executive director, as we anticipate continued growth in the years ahead. He brings to us a wealth of experience in the non-profit sector, both from his senior roles at Knox Community Hospital and at Mount Vernon Nazarene University, and from his years of volunteer community engagement. As board chair, I am very much looking forward to working with him.”

Scott has served as Director of Marketing and Development at KCH since December of 2013, managing all marketing and public relations efforts during an extraordinary period of growth and expansion for the organization. Additionally, Scott has led the philanthropic work of The Foundation for Knox Community Hospital, which during his tenure raised more than $15 million in gifts and pledges toward new equipment, programs and services, and most recently the development of the Wright Family Medical Pavilion on the KCH campus.

“It has been a personal and professional honor to support the terrific work of Knox Community Hospital over the past six years,” said Scott. “I have tremendous respect for Sam, his team, and the board of directors of the Knox County Foundation; and I am both humbled and excited about the opportunity to help lead and guide this vital community resource in the years ahead.”

Prior to joining Knox Community Hospital Scott was Director of Communications at Mount Vernon Nazarene University, where he helped develop marketing and communication strategies for the institution.

Scott’s community service resume is extensive, including past board membership and chairmanship of the Knox County Chamber of Commerce and board membership of Knox County United Way, as well as current membership on the Knox County Foundation’s Distribution Committee, the Lakeholm Church of the Nazarene Leadership Board, and the KnoxLabs Board of Directors, which he also serves as treasurer.

Scott grew up in Indiana and lived for 15 years in the Virginia suburbs of Washington, D.C., before relocating to Knox County in 2011. He lives in Mount Vernon with his wife Stephanie and three children.

Now in its 76th year, the Knox County Foundation’s mission is to improve the quality of life in Knox County through charitable giving; to provide a vehicle for donors of varied interests to support charitable and community activities; to assess and respond to emerging and changing community needs and to develop a permanent endowment for the community, and to serve as a catalyst for a variety of projects.
