LOOKING FOR A VET ASSISTANT

Reports to : The Vet assistant will report to the Shelter Director and the Shelter Vet

Job Overview: The Vet Asst. will assist the Shelter Vet in various animal care activities involving both in house and client-owned animals They will provide other assistance as needed or required. The Vet Assistant is a critical member of KCHS team in allowing surgery days and clinic days to go smoothly and efficiently. We strive to provide the highest quality of care to the animals within our care and the people associated with them.

Responsibilities and Duties:
* Check-in animals and weigh them as needed on surgery days ( hours 7:45 am to 5:00 pm)
* Prepare animals for surgery including clipping and scrubbing in a meticulous and efficient manner
*Clean surgery room, including cages and laundry
*Prepare pain meds, trazadone and or antibiotics for surgery animals
*Prepare prep room for Tuesdays Wellness Clinic ( hours 9 am to 4 pm)
*Assist vet with animals including exams and vaccinations
*Complete required paperwork associated with clinic animals
*Complete required paperwork associated with in house animals
*Assist vet with animals intakes
*Assist vet with required medical care for shelter animals including vaccines, flea medication
*Assist with or perform microchipping, testing, and \or vaccination animals as required
*Assist vet with euthanasia
*Interact with clients on a daily basis in a professional manner including answering the phone, placing calls, being an adoption counselor, signing up animals for surgery and answering questions
*Follow all protocols and instructions
*Other duties as assigned including monitoring social media pages, taking pictures of cats, etc.

Qualifications:
*Associates in Veterinary Assistant equivalent of above(equivalent experience may be considered)
*Experience working with animals, preferably in a veterinary setting, with a strong desire to learn
*The person who will do best at this position will be caring, efficient, organized., timely, willing to learn, self-starter, have high attention to detail, and be committed to doing their best.
*must be able to lift 50#

Bending, lifting, and squatting are required
