Miller Promoted to Corporal via Skype Teleconferencing

The Mount Vernon Police Department promoted and swore in Zachary Miller as their newest Corporal Monday morning. Miller, an eight-year veteran for MVPD has been serving with his Ohio Army National Guard unit in Afghanistan, so the ceremony was conducted via Skype teleconferencing.

Miller, who was flanked by two of his Army buddies (as he called them) enthusiastically recited his oath before Mayor Matt Starr, Police Chief Robert Morgan, and several other police officers.

“It’s an honor for me to be able to serve Mount Vernon,” Miller said. “I was excited to get the promotion and share it with my unit over here (in Afghanistan).”

Miller joined the MVPD in November of 2012 and started in the Police Academy in March of 2013 where upon graduation he was assigned to Field Training Officer (FTO) training. Miller has worked several shifts for the Police Department and has been a member of our Emergency Services Unit for several years.
