Move Over Law

The State of Ohio passed the Move Over or Slow Down Law in 1999, this law requires all motorists to move over one lane when passing by law enforcement officers, emergency responders and Tow drivers that are parked on the side of the road. Then in 2013, the law was revised to apply to every stationary vehicle with flashing lights including road construction, maintenance and utility crews, snowplows and waste collection vehicles.
In the state of Ohio, a citation for failing to comply with the Move Over Law can result in a $180 fine and two points on your license for a first-time offense.
