R415 and G414 were dispatched at 11:44 am on Tuesday to the area of Columbus Road and the Ohio 13 Bypass on the report of a two-vehicle motor vehicle crash involving a semi-truck and a car. Fredericktown EMS was also dispatched with two medic units that responded to the scene.
R415 arrived on scene and found a car off the northbound lane side with heavy rear-end damage and two patients. A semi-truck and trailer was found on the southbound lane with moderate front end damage and one driver. Firefighters assisted with removing patients from the car and into EMS care. A significant amount of vehicle fluids were cleaned up by firefighters on scene.
The FCFD was assisted by the Ohio Department of Transportation, the Knox County Sheriff’s Office, Ohio State Highway Patrol, and the Fredericktown Police Department with closing down the bypass and other areas to protect the scene, patients, and first responders.
While in the cleanup phase on the first crash, R415 was notified by dispatch of an additional crash, with entrapment at the intersection of Waterford Road and the Ohio 13 Bypass. This call came in at 12:18 pm. The Mount Vernon Fire Department and Jefferson Twp (Richland Co) were dispatched for medic units.
R415 arrived on scene to find a two-vehicle crash, heavy side damage to the car, and moderate front end damage to a small SUV that was pulling a trailer. This was a working extrication for the driver from the car, a medical helicopter was dispatched to the scene. Doors were removed by firefighters to gain patient access for treatment and removal. The patient from the car was transported by AirEvac 107 from nearby Kokosing Helipad. The driver of the SUV was not trapped in the vehicle.
Crews remained on scene to assist with cleanup of vehicle fluids. Again, the response efforts of the Ohio Department of Transportation, the Knox County Sheriff’s Office, Ohio State Highway Patrol, and the Fredericktown Police Department with closing down the bypass and other areas to protect the scene, patients, and first responders.
The FCFD had seven firefighters respond to this call. Units were clear from this scene at 1:57 pm.
