The Academy Award-nominated film “Harriet” (PG-13) will be shown at Free Movie Night on Tuesday, February 11, 6:30 p.m. at the Public Library of Mount Vernon and Knox County, 201 N. Mulberry Street, Mount Vernon.
The film is based on the extraordinary story of Harriet Tubman, the heroic 19th-century freedom fighter, whose courage, ingenuity and strength helped hundreds of slaves escape the bondage of slavery and changed the course of history.
Cynthia Erivo (Harriet) was nominated for her Best Original Song “No Small Parts” and for Best Actress in a Leading Role for her stirring performance in Kasi Lemmons’ historical drama. The film also features actors Leslie Odom Jr (William Stull), Joe Alwyn (Gideon Brodess), Clarke Peters (Ben Ross), Vanessa Bell Calloway (Rit Ross) and Omar J. Dorsey (Bigger Long).
