Governor DeWine Releases Children Services Transformation Initial Findings

(COLUMBUS, Ohio)—Ohio Governor Mike DeWine today released the Children’s Services Transformation Advisory Council’s Initial Findings Report. This report summarizes the state’s efforts regarding foster care reform since Governor DeWine took office, along with common themes the council heard during their recent forums held throughout the state.

“It has been crucial for members of the advisory council to hear directly from those who have been touched by the children services system,” Governor DeWine said. “Those who took time to provide testimony are the reason this council will be able to develop quality recommendations that will reform the system and provide better outcomes for all of Ohio’s children and families.”

Common themes heard from the forums include:

  • Prevention
  • Workforce
  • Practice
  • Kinship
  • Foster Care
  • Adoption
  • Justice System

The Children Services Transformation Advisory Council, announced in November of 2019, is made up of a wide range of families, youth, and subject matter experts from across the state. Shortly after their formation, the council hosted 10 regional foster care forums throughout the state to better understand local challenges. This month, members began intensive monthly meetings where they will develop recommendations that will be issued to Governor DeWine by early summer.

“Ohio’s most vulnerable are in need of change now more than ever,” Governor DeWine added. “I look forward to seeing the collaboration, sense of urgency, and compassion this council will provide.”
