What a busy start to the year that the Fredericktown Community Fire District has had. Our members and families met toward the beginning of the month for the annual awards banquet ceremony. Gathered in brotherhood, the personal and district accomplishments were recognized.
The annual dinner this year was held at the Fredericktown Presbyterian Church and was a busy evening of not only awards, but remembering the difference made by many.
New firefighter Scott Brooks, officially off probation was sworn in and had his badge pinned by Lt. Jeremy Moss. Brooks was later recognized with the “Dear Chief” award, in good fun and remembering that all of us have been there at some point, that we learn and grow.
Recognized for five years of service was Firefighter Seth Popham. Recognized for his 30-years of service was Assistant Chief Scott Mast.
Yearly the fire district presents the “Flame of Distinction Award” for those who have significantly contributed to the safety or wellbeing of others, or for the exceptional support of the fire district. This year that award was presented to Mike’s Fredericktown Marathon and Mike Cockrell. His support over the years with getting the district vehicles for training, allowing us to train on the grounds of his shop, and supporting us in many ways has been paramount to our success. This past year while responding to a dive call our trailer blew a tire on the way. Crews loaded up equipment into other vehicles and continued on. Mike made sure that it was taken care of properly and the trailer was back in service quickly.
Assistant Chief Mast was once again called up front to be recognized. He was not only presented with the “Chief’s Award” for his service and recognition from Chief Dwayne Canter, but also an award from his peers. The 2019 Firefighter of the Year was presented to Assistant Chief Scott Mast. AC Mast was humbled by the recognition as it brought people to their feet. The next 15-minutes of the floor were firefighters and officers standing to congratulate, thank, reminisce, and recognize. It wasn’t just about 2019, it wasn’t one incident or call, the award meant so much about just how far the department has came under his leadership and with those he brought together.
