ODNR Accepting Grant Applications for Geologic Research

COLUMBUS, Ohio – The Ohio Department of Natural Resources (ODNR) Division of Geological Survey is accepting applications for the Ohio Geology Student Research Grant program. In its fifth academic year, this program now offers support to both graduate and undergraduate students conducting important geologic research in the state.

The ODNR Division of Geological Survey will award three grants of $2,500 each to earth science students at Ohio colleges and universities. Each grantee will be selected based on the quality of their application, the strength of their professor’s letter of reference, and the relevancy of the proposed research.

“Student research makes an important contribution to our understanding of Ohio’s geology, and it benefits the student learning process to obtain grant funding,” said ODNR Division of Geological Survey Chief and State Geologist Mike Angle. “Opening up the grant to undergraduate research should provide opportunities for students working on their senior theses.”

The deadline for application submission is Friday, Dec. 6. The application and complete submission guidelines can be found on the division’s website. Candidates must be enrolled in a full-time graduate or undergraduate earth science studies program at an accredited college or university in Ohio for the 2019–2020 year.

Previous grantees have conducted geologic studies throughout the state, including rocks in the deep subsurface of southwestern Ohio, stratigraphy in the Nelsonville area, and even potential meteor or comet impact sites, among other projects.
