6-State Trooper Project to Focus on Speed, Safety Belt and OVI Along Interstate 70

COLUMBUS – The Ohio State Highway Patrol and other members of the 6-State Trooper Project are collaborating to focus on speed, safety belt, and OVI enforcement along Interstate 70. This initiative began today at 12:01 a.m. and will end on Sunday, October 13 at 11:59 p.m. The high-visibility enforcement includes the Indiana State Police, Pennsylvania State Police and the Ohio State Highway Patrol.

“Partnerships like the 6-State Trooper Project ensure motorists in Ohio and our neighboring states arrive safely at their destinations,” said Governor Mike DeWine.

“Our focus is on violations which often contribute to fatalities,” said Colonel Richard S. Fambro, Patrol superintendent. “Every traffic stop we make is a chance for our troopers to educate motorists on safe driving habits.”

In 2018, there were 13,353 OVI-related crashes on Ohio roadways, killing 402 people and injuring 7,866 others. Troopers also removed more than 26,600 impaired drivers from Ohio roadways.

The 6-State Trooper Project is a multi-state law enforcement partnership aimed at providing combined and coordinated law enforcement and security services in the areas of highway safety, criminal patrol and intelligence sharing.
