CH411, CH412, E419, R415, T417 were dispatched at 6:17 pm on Tuesday evening to East College Street in Fredericktown on the report of a motor home on fire next to a barn.
Upon arriving to the scene CH412 found a motor home fully involved that had spread to a 25’ x 25’ two-story barn. Mutual aid was requested from the Jefferson Township Fire Department (Richland Co), Mount Vernon Fire Department, College Township, Monroe Township Fire Department, and Fredericktown EMS for a Medic unit.
Fire attack was initiated from two 1 ¾” attack lines stretched from E419 and a fire hydrant just down the street was used for supply.
College and Monroe Township Fire Departments were cancelled while en route. Additional companies assisted with overhaul in the areas of the structures involved.
The owner of the motor home was working on it when the carburetor caught fire and quickly spread underneath, involving the entire vehicle. The barn sustained heavy damage, however, the other structure next to it sustained no fire damage.
Traffic control was handled by the Fredericktown Police Department and the Knox County Sheriffs Office. There were no injuries to firefighters or the person working on the motor home.
The FCFD had 14 firefighters and two cadets respond to the call. All FCFD units were back in quarters by 7:34 pm.
