Rosperts Market, LLC Issues a Voluntary Recall

NORWALK, Ohio (June 19, 2019) – Rosperts Market, LLC of Norwalk, OH announces a voluntary recall of approximately 22,778 pounds of beef, pork, and lamb products that were possibly produced under unsanitary conditions. Rosperts Market, LLC has determined that these products were produced with the use of a water supply that failed to meet the Ohio Department of Health’s microbiological standards for private water systems in Ohio.

The beef, pork, and lamb products were produced between May 21, 2019, and June 17, 2019.

The complete list of products can be found on the attached file.

The products subject to the recall were distributed to customers of Rosperts Market, LLC or sold through the retail at Smith’s Country Counter located at 3675 Lehigh Rd., Norwalk, OH 44857.  The shipping container for products distributed at Rosperts bear establishment number “EST. 58” inside the Ohio Department of Agriculture (ODA) mark of inspection. The product sold at Smith’s Country Counter was labeled with this firm’s retail label which does not contain the mark of inspection.

The problem was discovered on June 18, 2019, while an Enforcement, Investigations, and Analysis Officer (EIAO) from ODA’s Division of Meat Inspection was reviewing records during a routine Food Safety Assessment (FSA). The EIAO observed that results from the establishment’s third-party testing laboratory indicated that a water sample collected at the establishment by the Huron County Health Department on May 21, 2019, was positive for E. coli. The water is used in the production of the beef, pork, and lamb products. The presence of E. coli bacteria in the water violates the regulatory requirement and the supply is determined to be non-potable. Therefore, the non-potable water supply resulted in the potential creation of unsanitary conditions and potential direct product contamination leading to adulteration of the products processed in the facility during this time period.

There have been no confirmed reports of adverse reactions due to consumption of these products. Anyone concerned about a reaction should contact a healthcare provider.

As a precaution, Rosperts Market, LLC urges customers that have purchased these products not to consume them. These products should be thrown away or returned to the place of purchase.

ODA routinely conducts recall effectiveness checks to verify recalling firms notify their customers of the recall and that steps are taken to make certain that the product is no longer available to consumers.  When available, the retail distribution list(s) will be posted on the ODA Meat Inspection Division website at:  ODA Meat Inspection Recalls.
