Born Wild, Stay Wild: Call the Experts for Help!

Last week, Franklin County Wildlife Officer Brad Kiger received a call about a goose spotted on a Columbus lake with an arrow in its bill. Division of Wildlife personnel responded and were able to capture the goose and safely remove the small yellow arrow that was lodged through its bill. Fortunately, the goose did not sustain any serious injury and was released back onto the pond.

If you come across an injured animal, contact your nearest Wildlife District Office or local wildlife rehabilitator. Do not attempt to capture or assist the injured animal until proper, expert guidance is provided to you. The ultimate goal is getting the animal ready for release back into the wild, so limit contact with the animal. By letting professionals help the animal, you give it the best chance for survival. Remember that it is illegal to keep wildlife without a rehabilitators permit. More information and contact information for wildlife rehabilitators can be found at wildohio.gov/staywild
