Special Free Movie Matinee: “Azorian: The Raising of K-129”

A special Free Movie Matinee featuring the documentary film, “Azorian: The Raising of K-129” will be held on Sunday, March 17, 2:00 p.m., at the Public Library of Mount Vernon and Knox County, 201 N. Mulberry Street, Mount Vernon.

In 1968 the Soviet ballistic missile submarine, K-129, sank in the Central North Pacific. The CIA crafted a secret program with the help of some of the most brilliant minds in science, engineering, and business, including the reclusive Howard Hughes, to raise the submarine right under the noses of the Russians during the height of the Cold War.

After some of the tightest security of all time, the story can be told by those who made it happen. See never before seen footage of the actual salvage attempt with new evidence of the project’s successes and failures.

Discussion will include personal insight by Knox Co residents directly involved in one of the largest and most daring covert operations in history and is in response to information from the March adult book discussion on “The Taking of K-129…,” by Josh Dean.

The program is free and open to the public. Refreshments will be served. For more information, call the main library at 740-392-BOOK (2665), visit www.knox.net or email communityrelations@knox.net.
