$410,000 Awarded to Licking and Knox County to Fight Addiction

[NEWARK, OH] Mental Health and Recovery for Licking and Knox Counties (MHR) is proud to announce that we have received $410,000 from the State Opioid Response grant through The Substance Abuse and Mental Health Services Administration. These dollars will be used to develop a substance use disorder triage crisis system, expand quick response teams in both counties, and purchase residential treatment services and additional outpatient services including all forms of medication-assisted treatment.

“These dollars are important to us as we can use them to treat other forms of addiction including Stimulant Use Disorders, caused by methamphetamine use, as long as the individual has a history of opioid overdose or has the potential risk of misusage or overdose,” explained Kay Spergel, MHR Executive Director, “There have been a number of individuals that have been identified as fitting the criteria for this grant and we believe there are more in the community that would qualify.”

This grant will not replace the current Medication Assisted Treatment – Prescription Drug and Opioid Addiction. The MAT – PDOA grant will continue to pay for opioid-addicted adults, however, Licking and Knox County both report high usage rates of methamphetamine. With the support of our community partners, MHR will continue to strive to find new and innovative ways to support those affected by addiction. This grant was jointly submitted with six other ADAMH Boards in the Central Ohio region. The region as a whole was awarded 2.5 million dollars.
