Governor DeWine Issues Statement on Proposed BWC Rate Decrease

(COLUMBUS, Ohio) — Ohio Governor Mike DeWine issued the following statement today regarding the Ohio Bureau of Workers’ Compensation’s proposed 20 percent reduction in the average premium rate it charges private employers.

The cut would be the largest private employer rate cut nearly in nearly 60 years, with the potential to save these employers $244 million.

“Ohio is a place of opportunity for businesses, and this rate cut would give private businesses a considerable opportunity to further invest in themselves and their workforces. The Ohio Bureau of Workers’ Compensation is practicing sound fiscal stewardship by recommending this large rate reduction, while still maintaining a stable compensation fund for injured workers.”
