“The Untouchables” Featured at Adult Book Discussion

Mention “The Untouchables” in conversation and many will think back to black and white 1950’s television episodes of Eliot Ness (Robert Stack) and his men chasing down Al Capone’s gang in the back alleys of 1930’s Chicago. But where did all the stories filled with gunfights, illegal hooch, the Mafia and civic duty originate and are the tales fact or myth?

“The Untouchables,” co-written by Eliot Ness and Oscar Fraley will be featured at the November Adult Book Discussion on Tuesday, November 20, 7:00 p.m. at the Public Library of Mount Vernon and Knox County, 201 N. Mulberry Street, Mount Vernon.

Guest moderator Mike Vargo will share insight into this autobiographical memoir of Ness, a federal agent in the Bureau of Prohibition, as he fights crime with the help of a special team of handpicked incorruptible agents nicknamed, The Untouchables.

The book inspired the popular television series which ran from 1959 to 1963, and the 1987 film starring Sean Connery and Kevin Costner.

The program is free and open to the public. Refreshments will be served. Copies of the book are available or can be reserved at any of the four library locations. Reading the featured book is not required to attend the discussion.
