Weekend Activity: Listen For Screech-Owls!

The Eastern screech-owl is the most common owl in Ohio and occupies more ecological niches than our other species. They are about the same size as an American robin, although twice as heavy.

With a bit of knowledge, Eastern screech-owls are very easy to find, and one might be surprised at not only how common they can be, but at the places, they’ll turn up. Even urban and suburban sites with scattered trees harbor screech-owls. The easiest way to find them is to venture out on clear nights, and listen.
