Knox County Community Cycling Forum

The Knox County Park District and the Knox County Health Department wants to thank the 45 people who attended the Knox County Community Cycling Forum last evening at the C. A. & C. Depot. The overwhelmingly positive response from the enthusiastic audience confirms Knox County cares about cycling and cycling advocacy. Park District Director Lori Totman shared updates regarding the 35 miles of paved trails in Knox County. Tami Ruhl of the Health Department discussed the county’s current bike lending program and the importance of cycling in building healthy communities. Tom Bilcze, treasurer of the Heart of Ohio Trail board and bicycling advocate shared information about the “How We Roll” and “Bike Buddy” programs. Knox Transit’s Martin McAvoy shared about the newly installed bike racks on the transit vans and other local transportation initiatives that benefit cyclists.

The meeting allowed for open and honest discussions where the participants expressed interest in the hopes and vision for the future of cycling within the county. The forum brought together cycling advocates from very diverse backgrounds to share their thoughts and ideas, meet others who share the passion for cycling and learn about current and future opportunities to advocate, participate and support cycling in Knox County. Look for follow-up opportunities and activities to last nights meeting for persons to get involved! Again, thank you to those who attended and shared!
