Silver Screeners Free Classic Movie Matinee to feature “The African Queen”

The Silver Screeners Free Movie Matinee will feature the 1951 classic, “The African Queen,” on Sunday, August 5, 2:00 p.m. at the Public Library of Mount Vernon and Knox County, 201 N. Mulberry Street, Mount Vernon.

Directed by the iconic John Huston, the film features an Academy Award-winning performance by Humphrey Bogart as Charlie Allnut, the booze-guzzling, rough-around-the-edges captain of a broken-down East African riverboat. Bogart teams up with superstar Katharine Hepburn–a straight-laced, bull-headed missionary–to take on a menacing German gunboat during World War I.

Guest Bruce Gumbert will lead a short discussion on the film prior to the movie. Refreshments and popcorn will be served.

The program is free and open to the public. For more information call the main library at 740-392-BOOK (2665), visit www.knox.net or email communityrelations@knox.net.
