FDA Investigates Canine Heart Disease, Possibly Linked to Diet

The FDA is investigating the potential association between reports of heart disease (canine dilated cardiomyopathy [DCM]) and certain pet foods the animals consumed containing legumes or potatoes as main ingredients: https://go.usa.gov/xUKEf. As part of this investigation, we have been in contact with pet food manufacturers and the veterinary community to discuss these reports and will provide updates as more information becomes available.

We encourage pet owners and veterinarians to report DCM cases in dogs suspected of having a link to diet to FDA’s Safety Reporting Portal: https://go.usa.gov/xUK5M.
