Milkweed Plants and Bugs

Milkweed plants contain poisons, so most insects understandably avoid eating them. However, several species of insects have adapted to these poisons and can eat milkweed plants, which in turn makes the insects unpalatable to many predators. Monarch caterpillars, large milkweed bugs, milkweed leaf beetles, and milkweed beetles (pictured) can all commonly be found munching on milkweed leaves.
