Sign Up Now for the 2018 Libraries Rock Children’s Summer Reading Program and Event List for all Four Library Locations

It’s time to sign up for the 2018 “Libraries Rock!” Summer Reading Program at the Public Library of Mount Vernon and Knox County to enjoy activities and prizes for all ages at all four library locations from June through mid-July.

Children through fifth grade can sign up at the main library, 201 N. Mulberry Street, Mount Vernon, to be eligible for prizes or are welcome to attend the following summer reading programs:

Storytime for Preschoolers & Kindergartners: Tuesdays @ 10:00 a.m. on June 5, 12, 19, 26, July 10

Baby Storytime for Babies through 24 months: Wednesdays @ 10:00 a.m. on June 6, 13, 20, 27, July 11

“Sound & STEM” for Grades 3-5 on Mondays, 4:00-5:00 p.m. on June 4, 11, 18, 25, July 9. Students will explore ways sound is used in nature, music, and technology through stories, activities, and crafts.

“Music Workshop” for Grades 1-3 on Tuesdays, 4:00-5:00 p.m. on June 5, 12, 19, 26, July 10. Students will explore various ways music is made and create instruments to take home.

“Rock’n Rhyme Kids” with Amber Hawkins will be offered on Fridays, June 8, 15, 22, and 28 at 11:00 p.m. to noon.

All children up to fifth grade can participate on Thursdays at 10:00 a.m. in the following programs located at the YMCA Sports Center, 200 W. Chestnut, Mount Vernon:

June 7 – Musical Mark, “Let’s Make Music!”

June 14 – Spi Spot, “Sound Science”

June 28 – Columbus Zoo Animal Ambassadors

June 21, 10:00 a.m. all library locations are invited to attend  “Library Day at the Movies” at the Mount Vernon Premier/UEC Theater, 11535 Upper Gilchrist Rd for a free showing of “Paddington 2.”

Final party in the parking lot will be held on July 12, 10 a.m. to noon behind the main library. Carnival games, temporary tattoos, rock star photo booth, make your own instrument, enjoy Rex Nayor and his balloon animals and grab a Hawaiian Sno-Cone-2-Go. Children who reach their reading goals will need to bring their Reading Records to the lower level of the library to receive a free book, courtesy of Friends of the Library.

Libraries Rock! Summer Reading Programs will be held at the branch library locations as follows:

Gambier Community Library, Wednesdays, 10:00 a.m. at the Gambier Community Center Gym, 115 Meadow Lane.

June 6 – Musical Mark, “Let’s Make Music!”

June 11 – 6:30 p.m. to Build & Fly Your Own Kite for ages 8-14 at the Gambier Community Library

June 13 – Sarah Goslee Reed, “Sing Me a Story!”

June 21 – Library Day at the Movies, “Paddington 2,” Premier/UEC Theater, Mount Vernon

June 27 – Columbus Zoo Animal Ambassadors

Final Party Open House, July 11, 11:00 a.m. – 8:00 p.m.

Fredericktown Community Library Storytime for ages 3-8 on Tuesdays at 6:00 p.m. will be June 5, 12, 19, 26, July 10.

Elementary Programs for Wednesdays, 1:00 p.m. at the Fredericktown old high school gym, 117 Columbus Rd.

Free Guitar lessons for all ages will be offered at the Fredericktown Community Library on Tuesdays, June 12, 19 & 26 at 7:00 p.m. Bring your own guitar.

Danville Public Library will host the following elementary programs at 1:00 p.m. in St. Luke’s Community Center, 7 W. Rambo St:
