The Mount Vernon B&O Railroad Station

The Mount Vernon B&O Railroad Station

The Mount Vernon B&O Railroad Station served as a telegraph office, freight and passenger railroad station. The first train to stop at the station did so on Monday November 25th 1907, with many more continuing to do so for the next 95 years.

It was by chance that the elegant design was constructed in Mount Vernon and not its originally intended site, Sandusky (see the full story on their web site).

Restoration of the station began in 2003 and was completed in 2007. The station is open to individuals and organizations for meetings and special events. Check the site for availability.

Being among those that had the privilege to visit when it first reopened, it was a memorable experience flavored by the personal connection to my wife’s family, one of whom worked at the station when it was running.

This is yet another place worth seeing, if you have not already done so.
