Ohio Realtors Legislative Conference April 9-11

Columbus, OH— Local Knox County Realtors joined hundreds of Realtors from around the state at the Ohio Realtors Legislative Conference, April 9-11 in Downtown Columbus.

“This was an eye opening experience for us. We learned a great deal from this conference” said Knox County Realtors President, Rogena Shank. “I think it’s imperative for local Realtors to know what is going on at the state level that directly affects our industry. It was a great opportunity for us to learn and educate legislators on our issues.”

Shank went on to say, “As we build our local legislative committee, we want to keep our members informed of the happenings at the state and national level so we can be involved in the process.”

The three-day conference sponsored by the Ohio Realtors, formerly Ohio Realtors Association, focused on issues important to the real estate market in Ohio. A major theme was the 50th anniversary of Fair Housing laws which included a presentation from Congresswoman Joyce Beatty. Anne Petit, Superintendent, Ohio Division of Real Estate; Jacqueline Williams, Director, Ohio Department of Commerce spoke on current regulatory issues. Updates on current house and senate bills pertaining to property taxes, solicitations, appraisal regulations, inspection licensure, three-day forcible entry, dower and a variety of other topics were covered.

Interesting conversation on politics and elections, as well as question and period, was hosted by Jane Timkin and David Pepper, State Charis for both the Republican and Democrat Parties respectfully. A panel of leaders from the Ohio House and Senate leadership teams from both parties covered legislative issues and political environment.
