Free Holiday Classic “Pocketful of Miracles” featured at Silver Screeners Movie Matinee

The 1961 holiday classic, “Pocketful of Miracles,” the last film from legendary director Frank Capra, will be featured at the Silver Screeners Free Movie Matinee on Sunday, December 10, 2:00 p.m., at the Public Library of Mount Vernon and Knox County, 201 N. Mulberry Street, Mount Vernon.

The film features performances from movie icons Bette Davis and Glenn Ford and introduces the world to the talents of Peter Falk and Ann-Margret. The film received three Academy Award nominations and was based on one of Capra’s earlier films, “Lady for a Day” (1933).

“Pocketful of Miracles,” tells the heartwarming story of Apple Annie (Davis), a boozed up bag lady in New York. Gangster Dave the Dude (Ford) believes she is his “good luck” charm and finds himself in the middle of a charade when he agrees to help Annie transform into a member of high-society in order to impress her long-lost daughter Louise (Margret) and her fiancé when they unexpectedly arrive from overseas.  to impress her long-lost daughter Louise (Ann-Margret).

Full of laughter, spoofs, tears, and redemption, “Pocketful of Miracles” reminds us of the magic of the holiday season, and how just one person can change the world with just a little bit of optimism…and a healthy dose of luck.

The program is free and open to all ages. A brief discussion about the film will be held before and after the movie. Refreshments will be served.
