October is Domestic Violence Awareness Month

October is Domestic Violence Awareness month in Ohio. The definition of Domestic Violence is very clear but can range greatly in degrees and patterns. Domestic Violence is defined as a pattern of abusive and coercive behaviors, including physical, sexual & psychological attacks as well as economic coercion, that adults or adolescents use against their intimate partner (1).
In Knox County alone there were 243 incidents reported in 2016; an increase of 27 incidents more than were reported in 2015. When Domestic Violence occurs, it touches many lives & extends far beyond the victims & victims’ immediate families. If you, or someone you know, is involved in a Domestic Violence relationship, you can take action. Reaching out to local law enforcement is a start. There are also reputable websites that can lend assistance; take steps to protect yourself!
