An ambulance came to Court this week to treat a female probationer who was apparently under the influence of drugs. It was a serious incident that occurred in the context of a typical year in the Probation Dept. that looks like this. On average 500 new cases are opened, and four Officers are currently supervising 1,525 offenders. Over 4,500 times each year probationers come in for an office appointment. On average, 45 probationers are drug tested many times each month. The drug tests look for several different kinds of drugs, and last year 7,683 separate drug test results were recorded with 359 positive results. (See attached drug test pie chart.) Keeping probationers off drugs is an ongoing effort, so more information will be posted soon about the new drug testing equipment we installed in Court this week.
