Knife Company Fails to Deliver

Columbus, OH When it comes to custom knife-making, the popular reality TV show Forged in Fire may have piqued consumers’ interest throughout the country. Customers from all over the nation are disappointed, however, after ordering their blades from a Central Ohio company.

Nocturnal Knives, located in Canal Winchester, Ohio, has an F rating with BBB after a pattern of complaints. Complainants and negative customer reviews state the company failed to deliver custom knives for which payments had already been made, and failed to respond to customers requests for assistance.

Consumers have waited years for their custom knives, and have lost $5,000 total. BBB wrote to Nocturnal Knives twice this year requesting their voluntary cooperation in resolving the underlying cause for the complaints, but the business did not respond.

When purchasing merchandise online, BBB encourages customers to stay sharp with these tips:

  • Do your research. Check the company’s BBB Business Profile at bbb.org before making a purchase to see its complaint history, customer reviews and any advertising-related issues.

  • Find reviews. What are other customers saying about this company? Be sure to look for a variety of reviews, because dishonest companies can easily submit fake, positive reviews.

  • Know what to look for. Use websites with an “https” and a little green lock before the address. Any business, even one who only does business online, should be transparent about their information. You should be able to find a physical address and a way to contact them.

  • Locate a privacy policy. Trustworthy websites should have a privacy policy explaining how your personal information will be protected.

  • Pay with a credit card. Under federal law, charges made on a credit card can be disputed up to 60 days after the purchase.

  • Keep documentation of your order. After completing the online order process, there should be a final confirmation page or an email confirmation. Save any receipts for future reference.

  • Know your rights. Federal law requires that orders made by mail, phone or online be shipped by the date promised or, if no delivery time was stated, within 30 days. If the goods aren’t shipped on time, the shopper can cancel and demand a refund. There is no general three-day cancellation right, but consumers do have the right to reject merchandise if it’s defective or was misrepresented. Otherwise, it’s the company’s policies that determine if the shopper can cancel the purchase and receive a refund or credit.
