Patrol Investigates Fatal Delaware County Crash

Delaware – The Delaware Post of the Ohio State Highway Patrol is investigating a two vehicle, double fatality crash that occurred today at approximately 11:12 a.m. on Africa Road, south of Plumb Road, in Berlin Township, Delaware County.

Gavin D. Schlotterbeck, age 17, of Powell, Ohio, was driving a 2003 Toyota Camry northbound on Africa Road. Emily R. Bensi, age 19, of Westerville, Ohio, was driving a 2015 Jeep Wrangler southbound on Africa Road. Mr. Schlotterbeck drove off the right side of the road, over corrected and drove left of center. His vehicle was struck on the passenger side by Ms. Bensi’s vehicle.

Mr. Schlotterbeck and his passenger, Hunter D. McClelland, age 17 of Powell, were pronounced deceased at the scene. Ms. Bensi, and her passenger, Geneva Day, age 12, of Columbus, Ohio were transported to local area hospitals with non-life threatening injuries.

The Ohio State Highway Patrol was assisted at the scene by the Delaware County Sheriff’s Office, the Berlin Township Fire Department, the Delaware County Highway Department, and Delaware County EMS.

Alcohol is not suspected in the crash, safety belts were in use at the time of the crash by all occupants. The crash remains under investigation at this time.
