Cassell Road Mulch Fire

C412, G414, E419, T417 were dispatched at 10:44am on Monday to 14000 block of Cassell Road in Morris Twp on the report of a mulch fire. Units were advised that this was a distance off the roadway.

Upon arrival to the area, incoming units were led down the abandoned railroad bed and back along a field where the 50’x75’x25’ high pile of wood chips was burning. The grass trucks positioned themselves close to pile where the forestry lines could handle suppression. E413 bumped up to station one and brought E419 to the scene which has a CAFS (Compressed Air Foam System) unit on the pump. E419 was driven down the railroad bed along the fire and pumped foam to the grass trucks. T417 drove down the railroad bed to the scene and supplied E419.

A small excavator was brought in by the owners in order to tear apart the large pile of wood chips and locate the seat of the fire.

All FCFD units were back in quarters by 2:49pm and had a significant amount of cleanup to get the trucks in service for the next call.
